3 meals, 3 different days

Untitled
Scrambled eggs with basil and cucumber (and lots of butter) on a bread roll.

Untitled
Spaghetti with super spicy tomato sauce.

Untitled
Last week Johan marinated some chicken and cooked for us. My first reaction was Hey Johan, since when am I a body builder? ha ha. I could eat cottage cheese with anything and everything ever day. Was very tasty.

2 weeks in July & August

Untitled
Hi! Summarizing the past couple of weeks in this post. Started an instagram account for my illustration works as you may know. To the right is the road to my studio ;)

Untitled
This sign has been here since forever.

Untitled
Woke up one morning with an invitation over to my friend Fiona's place for coffee.

Untitled
Standard Sandra food. Teriyaki style onions with rice and a fried egg. Spaghetti with tomato sauce and basil. Still have no fridge...

Untitled
On a sunny morning I went to Happy Baristas with Johan for flat whites.

Untitled
Another hot day, we went to Kreuzberg to take some pictures of food for Gotham Grill. Guacamole loaded potato skins and mac n' cheese poppers. Was drinking their homemade lemonade with pineapple juice, sparkling water & mint. It's my favourite!

Untitled
Came home and left.

Untitled
Because Eili was back in Berlin! This crocheted pink lady is our baby sister.

Untitled
Ramen on the balcony and a flat white at Cozys.

Untitled
Last weekend it was time for the party of the Summer! My friends from Glasgow, DABJ, played great music.

Untitled
Before the party Eili invited us over for brunch and we ate enough to be able to party the rest of the day. So many friends were there, I was mostly hanging around with them talking while Johan was on the dance floor.

Untitled

Untitled
The day after the party Johan, Eili & I hung out at Insel der Jugend (an island) having picnic with a new friend and his dog.

Untitled
In-between those pictures I've been working a lot (an influencer campaign on my instagram, translating a brochure from German to Swedish, making a poster, catching up on emails etc etc). The sky has been amazing lately and yesterday I went to Gotham Imbiss to shoot and eat my new favourite burger with goat's cheese, chili onion jam, arugula & sriracha aioli - can you imagine how good those flavours are together?

My latest finds

Untitled
Hi! Finally some time for blogging! Want to show you my latest finds, most of them found on the streets in Berlin, a couple of things found at a second hand shop in Sweden and one thing my sister gave me. The past years I haven't bought many new things for myself, most of the stuff I found on the streets or in my staircase. Lots of great clothes, too.

Untitled
Look at these plates from the 1940's, they + the cheese slicer are from the second hand shop in Sweden (€1 each). The cigarette box and the green marble platter were found on a street in Kreuzberg last week. The Sami money pouch was given to me by my sister.

Untitled
Also from the street in Kreuzberg.

Untitled
Nice coasters (I never use coasters so they might become a present for someone) and a beautiful old stone thing that I don't know the name of, you know to have on the desk with ink and pens etc. Also found in Kreuzberg.

Untitled

Untitled
This white beauty I found today in Friedrichshain, there were a lot of them, in different colours, and I decided not to take them all - I like it when other people pass by and become as happy as me to find something.

Do you have a favourite?
I really like the green marble platter. And everything else ;)

A tattoo surprise

Untitled
Hey, it's Friday! I made a quick illustration for a poster Johan is making. I love that we work together nowadays! Something we tried for 12 years but failed. Never give up! And can you imagine my face when I got this picture of the tattoo sent from a friend? He found it in the toilet of his bar, where I had been a rascal and made the drawing, and loved it! What a compliment!

Untitled
The sky was very dramatic last night, Vincent came over for a beer and gossip.

What's going on this weekend?
For me, on Sunday, it's the party of the Summer! Outdoor techno with tons of friends, can't wait!

My answers to your questions

Untitled

Can you recommend any podcasts?
Unfortunately not, I only ever listened to half an episode so far. Time to start if I manage to focus (my day dreaming takes over). Any suggestions?

Have you ever visited Finland?
Yes, the northern parts (Tornio, Rovaniemi). Would love to visit Helsinki!

From one freelancer to another: What do you do when you are in a low-inspiration/low-energy phase in your freelance life? When everything feels hard and overwhelming? Any strategies that usually work for you? (Assuming you get bad periods once in a while.)
Yes, those periods come and go. I have practiced a lot not to panic, because inspiration isn't something you can plan. It's frustrating, but something I just have to accept. Taking a walk helps to clear my head, even though I find myself using those walks as procrastination a bit too often. Blogging is a great way to get shit done as well, to collect moments and things in a blog post and see that I actually did something that made me feel good.

I told you a few times before that I really love your photos and that you have this unique "Sandra" style. I would love to know how you pass certain of your motifs. Like ... do you stop and take several pictures to choose the best or do you just take one and move on? A strange question ... but I'm honestly curious! (:
I think it's a great question. I usually see things I like and just point and shoot. 1-2 pictures of the same motif and then I move on.

What brings you joy? What is one thing you like at your age now that you did not like as a younger person? What will you like when you are older that you may not like now?
So many things bring me joy, for example books, walking around the city the whole day with my camera (longing so much for one of those days), partying with my friends, waking up with my head on Johan's chest, food, listening to Miracle Cure Progressive Mix (Blank & Jones feat. Bernard Sumner) on repeat, going to Sweden to see my family etc etc.

As a younger person I didn't drink alcohol (started when I was about 25), I saw so many people around me acting like idiots and thought I would act like an idiot, too. Now I enjoy alcohol and most of the time I act OK ;) I hope I will like my flaws more when I'm older. It really helps to just accept them and live with them instead of against them. Think I'm doing pretty well so far.

Where do you see yourself in 5 and 10 years from now? Secondly, do you spend the majority of your work time on personal projects or client projects for your income?
The first question scares me and is something I am working on to figure out, because during my time with depression my life kind of stopped for a while and I didn't see a future at all. Personal projects take up most of my time, but I'm working more and more with clients again and it's a lot of fun! Will release a project on my Instagram this month that I did recently and it includes a giveaway, wohooo!

When did your interest in crochet started and how did you came with the concept for the wrist worms? Love them to pieces!!!
I was about 5 years old if I remember correctly. My mum was crocheting a lot when I was a kid and I was watching her and one day when she was busy taking care of my baby sister, I grabbed a crochet hook and some yarn and just started by trying to do the same movements with as she did. It worked :)

So glad you like the Wrist Worms, here is the story about them:
The story of the brand Wrist Worms started in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2008 when my husband asked me if I could knit him a pair of fingerless gloves. He loves wearing layered outfits and couldn't find what he wanted in the shops. Instead of knitting I chose to try making them with crochet technique and loved the structure it gave to the wrist warmers. I posted a picture of him wearing them on my blog and that same day I received several emails from people wanting to buy them.

So, I started to do some research. The pattern of the stitches is really simple so first I wanted to see if someone else already was doing it, but I couldn't find anyone. The idea for the name Wrist Worms popped up in my head and after that same research I was ready to release the Wrist Worms and ever since then they have been a big part of my daily work and life.

Up to something new

Untitled

Untitled

Hi, happy Friday!
This week has been a busy one; I've been doing some graphic design work, taking a really long walk which made me sleep like a baby, eating good food and sketching. The most simple sketches just to get head and hands working again, it feels very good. I have made a rule for the Wrist Worms season, which is around the corner: When possible, only crochet in the evenings. Daytime will be for other projects.

Tonight I go to a friend's restaurant which is closing this weekend, to eat there for the last time. Probably I'll have a margarita as well, yum. Then it's time to head over to a bar for another friend's last shift there. Things are ending, new things are beginning. I'm at this point right now as well. Changes! The rest of the weekend is for working and most likely head over to a park on Sunday for a birthday party.

Also: I'm going to Sweden a second time later this Summer! This time to my second family, the one that came with Johan - Can not wait!

Laksa on a pink table

Untitled

Last night I had a date with Johan at Santa Cantina to share this beautiful set up. Tofu with a chili dressing and laksa with seafood, chicken and tofu - so yummy.

Haven't made my own laksa for ages, about time to put one together soon. It's one of my favourite soups. Made it the first time 15 years ago, following this recipe and it's totally amazing.

Pictures of love

Untitled
What a week I had with my family! Every morning I woke up from the scent of coffee and got up to have a cup and a cinnamon bun with my mother. One and one woke up and all of a sudden we were all in the kitchen. This is my niece Lo, she loves to do make-up and we all got styled by her.

Untitled
When everyone was up, we made breakfast together.

My plate one of the mornings.

Untitled
Most of the time we were hanging out at the dining table together, playing Yatzy and cards, as it was raining heavily (Johan took this picture).

Untitled
Took the chance to eat fish and Swedish shrimp salad.

Untitled
Next up for make-up was my sister Lisette.

Untitled
This is Alice, my oldest niece, soon to be 14 years old. I love these kids like they are my own, they say I'm also their mother ;) Another comment was Auntie, I need to rest a while, you are so intense!

Untitled
This is love.

It took me a couple of days to adjust to being back home again, now I feel I'm back on track and will spend a lot of time alone working and taking walks with Johan. I also plan to take it easy with partying, which can be a bit difficult when you live in this crazy party city and you have crazy party people as friends (myself included). We enjoy our fun! I have a big outdoor rave to go to on August 6 and knowing that makes it easier to hide for a while. Listen to this old lady, omg.

Garden party

Untitled
My mum is the best. Summer flowers in the bathroom and she threw a garden party to which she had invited a bunch of relatives so I could see everyone at the same time.

Untitled
One of my most beautiful food pictures ;) We prepared ourselves with some pizza to get ready for the party preparations.

Untitled
Johan prepared the sound system.

Untitled
And people came by for food and drinks. Some of my relatives I hadn't seen for almost ten years!

Untitled
I had one of those as a kid.

Untitled
Here it's almost 10pm and still bright outside.

One more post from Sweden and then it's Berlin time again, OK? :)

Swedish overdose

Untitled
Last Saturday Johan, mum and I went to Hägnan in Gammelstad Church Town. We had a LOL moment in the car as my mum all of a sudden said elephant tampons about those white hay things.

Untitled
The open air museum Hägnan. We thought it was time to get some proper Swedish impressions. I start to see Sweden with different eyes, it feels a bit exotic.
